Sacrifice

Given the opportunity to open up for Nightwish on the Endless Forms Most Beautiful tour are fellow Finns Amorphis, who in turn are promoting their Under The Red Cloud album released back in September.

I can remember listening to this band way back in the early 90’s when they were much more of a death metal band. I’m pretty sure I’ve still got their self titled 7″ single boxed away in the front bedroom somewhere.

Apart from listening to a few tracks from Skyforger in preparation for one of their two appearances at Bloodstock in 2010 and again in 2013, I haven’t listened to them properly since their second album Tales From The Thousand Lakes. Until now!

Sacrifice is taken from the newest album, and I’ve had Under The Red Cloud playing in the background as I’m composing this, and I have to say I’m quite liking what this Helsinki bunch have done. Part melodic death metal, part folk metal with and under current of the symphonic metal genre. Somewhat an amalgamation of headliners Nightwish and Amon Amoth. I’m actually looking forward to catching these on Saturday now for only their ninth British gig.

Thanks Spotify.
